Central colleges will be upgraded - Rajapakse

There are 54 central colleges in Sri Lanka today. The government is concentrating on upgrading the status of these central colleges into first- class educational institutions in order to honour the originator of the central colleges C. W. W. Kannangara said School Education Minister Suranimala Rajapakse.

He was speaking at the opening of a new basketball court and the laying of the foundation for the new science laboratory building at Malwana Al-Mubarack Muslim National School recently.

Minster Rajapakse said teachers of central colleges will be given special training in the subjects which they teach. Dilapidated buildings of the central colleges will be repaired and the necessary equipment will be provided for these colleges.

The minister also said, that the free education scheme will not be scrapped but improved as this scheme only exists in Sri Lanka.
