Strong Lankan contingent for Asian Junior Athletic Championships

The Sri Lanka national junior athletic team will leave for Thailand today to participate in the tenth Asian junior track and field meet which will be worked off from October 28 to November 1 in Bangkok.

The Sri Lanka contingent includes nineteen boys, twelve girls, five coaches, three officials and ten technical officials. Athletes from over 43 countries are expected to compete in this meet which will be for under 20 years of age. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have granted a sum of Rs. ten lakhs to the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka realising the importance of this junior meet.

Sri Lanka managed to win only a bronze medal at the previous meet held in Brunei but this time they are hoping to produce an improved performance.
