Political consensus will help peace process - Camp The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Donald Camp who called on Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando has said that the international community would like to see a bipartisan attempt for peace in Sri Lanka, Foreign Ministry sources told the Daily News. In response, Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando told the Deputy Secretary Camp that the government was agreeable but all concerned must cooperate sincerely, sources said. They agreed that a consensus of the two major parties would help in negotiations with the LTTE and through to a settlement which would bring immense benefits to all parties and the country. Camp expressed hope that the on going peace process in Sri Lanka would bring fruitful results through a well planned approach. He also called on Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse. Meanwhile, Minister Fernando will go to Indonesia as a special envoy of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to personally convey the condolences of the Sri Lankan government and its people over the recent terrorist bomb attack in Bali that killed over 180 people. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has written to Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri that he is sending Fernando to brief her in detail on the peace process and discuss bilateral cooperation. |
