Israeli aircraft specialists and the court of inquiry of the Sri Lanka Air Force inquiring into Monday's Kfir crash are facing difficulties as they could not find vital parts of the aircraft from the crash site.

An Air Force spokesman told the Daily News yesterday that the two inquiring teams are not in a position to complete their inquiries as residents had taken away some important parts of the aircraft as souvenirs.

The efforts made by Air Force personnel searching the entire area of the crash site proved futile as they could not find out much needed parts of the aircraft. Therefore, the Air Force had to request the public to hand over parts of the aircraft they had collected from the site as souvenirs to the nearest Police station or the Air Force camp.

No legal action or inquiries will be held against them, the Air Force spokesman added.

The parts of the crashed aircraft were due to brought to the Kfir Squadron in Katunayake last evening from the crash site for further investigations.

Three Israeli aircraft specialists and a four member Court of Inquiry appointed by the Air Force Commander Air Marshal Donald Perera are inquiring into the Kfir crash at Nakkawatta, Kuliyapitiya.
