Defamation case put off

by Indeewara Thilakarathne

The Colombo Additional District Judge put off the Rs 5 million defamation case filed by the Former SLRC Legal Director Jayantha de Silva against the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited for January 24, 2003,in view of a possible settlement.

De Silva said that a news item published in the Dinamina and the Daily News titled "Rs. 4 million fraud in Rupavahini Corporation" was defamatory and lowered his reputation.

Romesh De Silva PC with Palitha Kumarasinghe instructed by Mahinda Wickremaratne appeared for the plaintiff while J. E. P. Deraniyagala PC with Jaliya Bodhinagoda appeared for the ANCL.
