by Peradeniya special correspondent The annual Kalyana Ranga 2002 cultural show, a mixture of Sri Lankan and Indian music and dancing was held for the 10th consecutive year at the Hindu Cultural Centre, Kandy. Central Province Governor Monty Gopallawa was the chief guest while Assistant High Commissioner for India in Sri Lanka A. K. Malhotra was the guest of honour. The programme was organised by the Sri Lanka-India Cultural Association of the Central Province (SLICA) under the sponsorship of donors in Kandy. Gopallawa in his address recalled the assistance SLICA had given to stage an Indian dance troupe performance in Kandy when he was the Minister of Cultural Affairs. He said the dances are a blend of dance and music from Veddha to modern dancing, breaking all ethnic barriers which projects more unity than diversity. Different dance forms of both countries, were performed by artistes of leading schools and cultural institutes in Kandy. SLICA secretary C. Nadarajah proposed the vote of thanks. |
