by Sigiriya group correspondent An important archaeological document of the history of our country - the Sigiriya Mirror Wall may get lost to the future generation if proper precautions are not taken, says Venerable Khemananda thera the chief incumbent of Rangiripaya temple of the Rangiri Dambulla Raja Maha Viharaya chapter. The Nayake thera told this reporter, that his recent visit to Sigiriya Mirror Wall premises it struck him that he must inform the general public of its condition. The Mirror Wall is the living boundary of the rock. This used to be the avenue through which all those who come to Sigiriya pass by. The space between the wall and the other end of the passage is very narrow. Not only schoolchildren - even adults tend to rub their hands - in the way of touching. Sometimes such actions make heavy scraping of the wall. Now the wall is completely defaced. New writings seemed to be appearing. Whatever we do to Sigiriya - would not serve any purpose unless the Ministry of Cultural Affairs directs some measures to protect this treasure, says the Nayake thera Ven. Kemananda.
