by Sarath Malalasekera Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police T. E. Anandarajah has been appointed the new Inspector General of Police with immediate effect. Anandarajah the 26th Inspector General of Police, was an outstanding sportsman and was the chairman of Police soccer and tennis boards. He had played for the Sri Lanka Police Tennis team and toured Bangalore, Madras during the last five years. He had his primary education at Wesley High School, Kalmunai and Methodist Central College, Batticaloa, and secondary education at Hartley College, Point Pedro. Anandarajah was a school prefect for over five years and in 1962 was made head prefect. He excelled in athletics and won school colours. He entered the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya in 1963 and passed out in 1966. He represented Peradeniya University at soccer and played for the combined university teams and won colours. Anandaraja obtained his degree from the University of Perdeniya; Masters in Public Administration from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura in 1990; Diploma in Criminology from the Buddhist Academy of Sri Lanka in 1975 and LLB from the Open University. Anandarajah joined the police as a Sub Inspector in 1967 and later re joined as a Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1971. As ASP, SP and SSP Anandarajah served in Ambalangoda, Elpitiya, Moneragala, Jaffna, Kelaniya, Tangalle, Colombo and as Director Research and Development and Headquarters. From 1995 to 1998, he served as DIG information and Technology and DIG SLRP. He was appointed Senior DIG in 2000. |
