Isipatana International Rugby Sevens today A total of sixteen teams including seven overseas teams will participate in the Isipatana College International seven a side rugby tournament to be worked off today and tomorrow at Longden Place. Among the foreign teams Lloyd McDermott rugby development team from Australia will be one of the strongest teams competing in this tournament. In addition with Thailand pulling out of the competition at the last moment the organisers have included Kingswood College Kandy as the replacement to make up the sixteen teams. The other foreign teams who have confirmed their participation are VVA Podmoskovie of Russia, Sutton and Espom from UK, New South Wales Junior RFU, English College from the UAE and Doha RFC from Qatar. But they are certain to receive stiff opposition from the local teams like Royal, Isipatana, St. Peter's and Vidyartha College Kandy. In addition Vidyartha reached the under 19 sevens final with a giant killing performance and will be determined to put up a good performance along with St. Anthony's, Wesley and Kingswood. The panel of referees will consist of four foreigners in John Wale of England, Ponchai of Thailand, Chris People of New Zealand and Rachel Sara from Switzerland who will be the first international lady referee to officiate in Sri Lanka. Aruna Jayasekera, Anil Jayasinghe, and Nizam Jamaldeen will be the local referees. |
