Nirmal off to Australia by Kandy Sports Correspondent Dharmaraja College allrounder Nirmal Wickremearatne left for Australia to play club cricket in Queensland on an invitation of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation which was extended to the Kandy District Cricket Association. Nirmal the vice captain of the Dharmaraja cricket team was a fine medium pacer and a very consistent batsman and was in the Sri Lanka under 19 cricket pool. He also represented Kandy Youths Cricket Club in the BCCSL's under 23 cricket tournament and the P. Sara Trophy cricket tournament. Kandy District Cricket coach Chaminda Kodikara who has been following the progress of Nirmal has all the ingredients to make the grade at a higher level given the correct exposure. He is expected to be away from the island for a period of six months. |
