Former Test captain and current national selector Allan Border was named here on Tuesday as one of Queensland's two representatives on the Australian Cricket Board (ACB).

Border, 47, will join barrister Damien Mullins as an ACB member, taking the spot vacated by the retirement of Cam Battersby.

Border became a board member of Queensland Cricket following the death of former Test batsman Peter Burge in October last year.

Mullins applauded the decision to elevate Border to the ACB.

"I'm looking forward to having the chance to work with Allan on the ACB and the delegate body deserve credit for recognising that the opportunity of having someone of his stature in the game who has contemporary knowledge of the players was too good to pass up," he said.

Last month Border said he was undertaking a charity walk from Sydney to Brisbane later this year.

Border plans to walk 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) from the Sydney Cricket Ground to Brisbane's Gabba ground to raise money for sick and disadvantaged children.

He will leave Sydney on October 8 and arrive at the Gabba during a break in play at the first Ashes Test between Australia and England on November 7.

Border played 156 Tests for his country, scoring 11,174 runs at 50.56 with 27 centuries. He also took 156 catches.
