Extension of service will not hamper promotions - Navy Chief by Ranil Wijayapala Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri yesterday told a press conference that the extension of his service will not affect the promotions of any of the senior officers of the Sri Lanka Navy. Clearing his position regarding some news reports on the extension of his service by three years the Navy Commander said it was the first instance in the history of Sri Lanka Navy where the service of a Navy officer was extended by three years. "I am proud to get a three years' extension. I also assure that there won't be any injustice to any senior officers of the Navy due to this extension of service," he added. The Navy Commander said of the six Navy officers mentioned by media only two officers have been made permanent in the posts of Rear Admiral. They have not yet completed 50 years of age. He said the six Rear Admirals - Mohan Wijewickrama, Wasantha Karannagoda, Sarath Weerasekera, Sarath Ratnakeerthi, Nandana Thuduwewatte and Daya Dharmapriya are well experienced and dedicated officers and they will get their due promotions. He said it was the sole responsibility of the President as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to extend the services of the officers of the Armed Forces.
