ANKARA, Wednesday (AFP) - Turkish police detained 59 illegal immigrants, the majority of them Iraqis, on board a truck near Kusadasi on the Aegean coast in western Turkey, the Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday. The immigrants -- 39 Iraqis, 17 Indians and three Sri Lankans -- were trying to make their way to western Europe and will be deported, the agency said. Dozens of illegal immigrants are arrested daily in Turkey which is a major transit for would-be immigrants from Asia and Africa hoping for a better life in the wealthier West. |
