From Jaffna special corr. The Decentralised Budget Committee of the Jaffna and Killinochchi districts at a meeting held recently allocated Rs. 31.5 million for Jaffna and Rs. 1.13 million for Killinochchi for development activities this year. The committee also decided to give top priority for the development of the education sector this year and allocated the largest slice of funds for it. Provision was also made for the rehabilitation of the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic College in Jaffna and the Sangiliyan Palace in Nallur under the budget allocations this year. Co-chairman of the Decentralised Budget Committee and TULF President, V. Anandasangaree, MP approved the budget estimates submitted by the MPs. All northern parliamentarians except Hindu Affairs Minister, T. Maheswaran, EPDP Members, Douglas Devananda and N. Mathanarajah and TNA Member, Mavai Senathirajah did not attend the meeting. Mr. Senathirajah is presently in India. |
