by Ranil Wijayapala The provision of the sea lane for the LTTE to transport their cadres will not hinder the operations of the Navy in the northern and eastern seas, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri said yesterday. Addressing the media at the Navy Headquarters the Commander said the Government sought his observations regarding the provision of a sea lane for the LTTE to transport their cadres. "I have told the Government about the pros and cons of the provision of a sea passage for the LTTE," the Navy Chief added. He said that there will not be any possibility to hinder the Naval operations due to the conditions stipulated regarding the use of the sea passage by the LTTE. Expressing his views on the current peace process by the Government he said political negotiations is the only way of solving a conflict between two parties and it has been made clear by the world history. He said the commitment for the peace by both parties is commendable as the two parties have already come a long way in the peace process. He said the Naval operations were at a peak by the time the peace process started, restricting logistic supplies for the LTTE with the expansion of Naval surveillance following the launch of the Varuna Kirana operation. He said it also helped the success of the peace process. |
