Police athlete passes away Sriyani Kusumalatha, Women/Sub Inspector and one time public school athlete from Arangala Central was passed away after brief illness. Sriyani was a fine athlete and prominent member of the Police Sports Club. In 1982, she erased the Police long jump, 400 metre records at Police athletic meet. She participated in the VIIth Veteran Games held in Singapore in the 40-45 age group and did well to win medals in 4 events. She has not confined herself only to athletics. She skippered the police netball team from 1989 to 1991 and was the Secretary of Police netball. She was honoured by the Police Sports Club with Police colours in 1982. She leaves her beloved son Lahiru and husband Dayaratne. Funeral will take place today at the General Cemetery, Borella. |
