A group of Buddhist peace monks from Japan cross into Pakistan from India at the Wagah border checkpost some 30 kilometers from Lahore as they arrive from India, 01 August 2002. They will start their peace march from Taxila, once the cradle of Buddhist civilisation, 35 kilometers west of Islamabad on August 6 and end their journey in October at Sanchi in India. They said the peace march is aimed at permanent renunication of war and violence and respect for life and all religions. (AFP)

Cheaper IDD, mobile incoming free : New policy for better connectivity

Overseas phone calls will be cheaper, and incoming calls on mobile phones free under the government's new telecommunication policy currently under implementation officials said yesterday.

Samurdhi provides valuable service to the poor - PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday observed that at a time the country was facing economic difficulty and shouldering a debt burden, the Samurdhi movement played a key role without being a strain on the state coffers in providing a valuable service to the poor.
