CH - Havies game should be a thriller

CH and FC which suffered a humiliating 5-51 defeat at the hands of Kandy SC last week will go all out to make amends for it by overcoming Havelocks sports club in their Caltex 'A' Division League return rugby match at Maitland Crescent today.

The lads from Maitland Crescent scored a thrilling 20-18 win in the first round game played at Havelock Park and another terrific tussle for supremacy can be expected today. CH will miss the services of sturdily built winger Ajit Upawansa who is on the injured list and Prasad Batepola who is in Manchester with the Sri Lanka Sevens team. The park club will be sans Leonard de Zilwa and Lalindra Rodrigo who are also taking part in the Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens. Flanker Siva Wanasinghe who missed the last match due to injury makes a welcome return to the Havelocks team.

Havelocks went down fighting to Army last week and it won't be a surprise if they emerge victorious today.

CH and FC - Sashika Cooray (Captain), Sameera Wijeyesinghe, Jayantha Ranaweera, Sanjaya Bandara, Tharanga Jayakody, Jayan Gunatilleke, Chaminda Perera, Asanka Thalagalarachchi, Milinda Jayasinghe and Saranga Jayakody, Varuna de Silva, Lasantha Ediriweera, Rukshan Wijesinghe, Yuganthara Karunaratne, Nalin Dissanayake.

Havelocks - Shafi Hassan, Mohamed Intikhab, Duminda Pushpakumara, Kavinda Jayasena, Rajiv Sornaratne (Captain), Siva Wanasinghe, Nishantha Bopearachchi, Rajiv Ganapathy, Tariq Mohamed and Jiffrey Saheed, Pradeep Sivakantha, Ruwan Suranga, Nishantha Chanaka, Jason Jayasekera, Lakala Perera.

Army go out favourites

The high-riding Sri Lanka Army will go out favourites against CR and FC in their Caltex 'A' Division League return game today at Galle Face.

The Red Shirts gave a pathetic display against Police last week and will have to come up with a much better performance if they hope to overcome the soldiers who have notched up four successive victories over old Zahirians, Kandy Youth, Police and Havelocks.

The forte of the soldiers have been their power-packed forwards and they should come up with another superb display with Udayakumara, Rajapakse, Jayasuriya, Siriwardena, Karunaratne and Rodrigo likely to give of their best.

Army - Chaminda Siriwardena, Y.P. Rajapakse, Udayakumara, Nishantha Jayasuriya, Pradeep, Colin Rodrigo, Jeevan Gunatilleke, Herathge Karunaratne, Naufer Rahim and Ajit Peiris (Captain), Mohamed Naushad, Tikiri Banda, Ranga Perera, Nalin Vijitha, T.A. Silva.

CR and FC - Shantha Rohana, M. Priyamanjula, Lakmal Abeysuriya, Roshan Perera, Sumedha Jayasinghe, Ranga Senadheera, Dinesh Fernando, Savantha de Saram, Champika Nishantha or Tuan Bohoran and Charith Kodagoda, Hamesh Gunaratne, Asanga Rodrigo (Captain), Nishantha Ekanayake, Nishantha Kumara, Zulfikar Halimdeen.
