Indrajith Bandaranayake to coach Kingswood by our Kandy Sports Correspondent Kandy Sports Club and Sri Lanka's crack winger and centre three quarter Indrajith Bandaranayake has taken over the coaching of Kingswood College rugby team which will continue to play matches this season amidst widespread speculation contrary to this. Indrajith Bandaranayake one of the finest rugby players to come out of the portals of Dharmaraja College has been a regular member of the Sri Lanka team since 1993 and could claim to be the most senior active national player at present. By a strange twist of fats Kingswood College's long standing coach Ananda Kasthuriarachchi who had coached the school's rugby teams at various levels in addition to being the Prefect of Games has obtained a transfer to Dharmaraja College and is seen helping the Rajans during matches. Both Indrajith Bandaranayake and Ananda Kasthuriarachchi captained Kandy Sports Club in the early nineties. It was under Ananda Kasturiarachchi that Kandy Sports Club won their maiden trophy at club level in 1992. He was also one time junior national rugby coach. With Indrajith Bandaranayake to coach the Kingswoodians, the school which has a rugby history of over 100 years having introduced the game in 1891 is bound to do well. |
