We set up teachers' and principals' service - MP Anura Yapa

by Kuliyapitiya group correspondent

The education of children is a paramount need. Therefore during our regime no teachers were transferred on political grounds instead we established the Teachers' Service and the Principals' Service to keep up the dignity of the teacher community, Kurunegala District MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.

He was addressing the meeting that followed the opening of the library, science laboratory, green room and the activity room of Giri/Gallehemulla MV.

The MP added that the previous government had introduced drastic changes in the field of education in order to make the school education more productive. It is good that the present government too follows those educational policies.

The governments provide facilities to the schools, the responsibility of the children is to make use of those facilities and resources for their studies. School education is an integrated process of parents, teachers and students. All those three sectors are expected to play their role efficiently and effectively. If the role of any of the sectors was hampered the education system would deteriorate.

The Wayamba Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe said that the educational resources worth billion of rupees were given to the schools during the last few years. However due to the existing economic crisis the provision of any more physical resources in future would be doubtful.

So we pay more attention on providing human resources for the educational field. The facilities and privileges enjoyed by the children in the urban schools would be extended to difficult schools in remote areas. So the allegation "nagareta kiri-gamata kekiri" could not be made in Wayamba.

Giriulla Zonal Director of Education Athula Alagiyawanna and the Principal H.M. Thilaka Chandra also spoke.
