A final decision on the implementation of the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project will be taken after studying the report of the special committee which reviewed the project said the Ministry of Power and Energy in a press release issued yesterday. The Special Committee was appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on July 3 to study various aspects of the project following reservations and other opinions expressed by certain groups regarding its implementation. The Special Committee comprising eight eminent professionals have now submitted their report to the Prime Minister after an in-depth study into each aspect of the project, the release added. The Ceylon Environmental Authority and the Ceylon Electricity Board are working out a detailed implementation plan to facilitate the mitigatory assurances given by the CEB with regard to the environment aspect of the project. |
