Fourteen Kandy SC players in national rugby pool by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Correspondent Fourteen ruggerites from the Kandy Sports Club Rugby have been included in the national rugby pool to select the national team for the Asian Games to be held in Korea in October. Kandy Sports Club who are the defending Caltex League Champions are on course to retain the League title once more and one more win will provide an anti climax to a rugby season which had been by and large dominated by the Kandy Club. They have no less than thirteen national players doing service for them and the selection of fifteen players to national pool means that team work has been the hallmark of Kandy's success this season. The players who have been selected to train in the national pool are: Harris Omar, Nilfer Ibrahim, Sajith Mallikararachchi, Chamara Withanage, Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, Radhika Hettiarachchi, Saranath Hettiarachchi, Indrajith Bandaranayake, Nalaka Weerakoddy, Sean Wijesinghe, Jeewa Galgamuwa, Pradeep Basnayake, Asoka Jayasena, Mohammed Buksh. In addition to this there are two other national players playing for Kandy this season in Dunstan de Silva and Kapila Silva and a few other national poolists of the recent past in Malith Silva, Sameera Silva, and Sanjeewa Bogahawatte. This will give some indication of the awesome strength of the Kandy SC team which had been virtually steam-rolling this season. |
