by Sarath Malalasekara The CID investigating the misuse of Government vehicles by the previous regime yesterday took two personal assistants of the former Agricultural Deputy Minister into custody. The investigators also recovered one double cab belonging to the Deputy Agricultural Minister from a car sale centre in Kelaniya. Investigations revealed that this Government vehicle had been sold to a car centre for 650,000 rupees. One personal assistant was taken into custody by the CID and collected 200,000 rupees out of the total payment. A senior officer of the CID yesterday told the Daily News that they have recovered all the 15 missing vehicles misused by the previous regime during the last general election. Most of the vehicles recovered from Colombo and suburban garages were beyond repair. The two suspects now in custody will be produced before court under the Public Property Act, the CID said. |
