President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who launched the SLFP re-organisation activities in Anuradhapura on Sunday visited the Sri Munneswaram Kovil in Chilaw and attended a special pooja on her way back from Anuradhapura on Monday. A press release issued by the SLFP said the President addressing the gathering stated that her sole endeavour was to steer the country to prosperity by redeeming it from its present plight. The President after a brief discussion with the high priest of the Kovil Keerthi Swamy listened to various problems and grievances presented by the gathering present who were mostly residents in the area. A special feature was the large amount of complaints regarding damage to life and property caused due to recent past election violence. The special pooja was organised by former MP Mervyn Silva. Among SLFP Parliamentarians present were Anura Bandaranaike, Maithripala Sirisena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mangala Samaraweera, D.M. Dassanayake, S. Sathasivam, V. Puththrasigamoney and Dayasiri Tissera. |
