Public debate on proposed national land use policy

A public debate on the proposed national land use policy will be held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on July 1 at 9 a.m.

On behalf of the organising committee Kamal Melvani, Director of Neo Synthesis Research Centre said during the 01 day program there will be 3 sessions.

The topics are as follows: land and people, land and nature, land and agriculture.

The panelists in the topic of Land and Nature discussion are: H. M. Bandarathilake, Conservator of Forests, S. Jayasiriwardena, AGM, Water Supply and Drainage Board, Kalu Ganga Project, Prof. Saratha Kotagama, Prof. of Environment, University of Colombo, Dr. Lionel Weerakoon, Director of Agriculture, Samurdhi Authority, Suranjan Kodituwakku, National Coordinator, Green Movement of Sri Lanka and S. Vaheesan of Helvetas of Sri Lanka will be the moderator of the above session.

The panelists in the discussion on the topic of land and people are: M. U. A. T. Tennekoon, Consultant, Land Management, Prof. C. M. Madduma Bandara, Prof. of Geography, Ranjith de Silva, Team Leader, Gami Seva Sevana, Ms Kamal Melvani, Director, Neo Synthesis Research Centre. Susil Siriwardana, Ex. Janasaviya Commissioner will act as the moderator for the above session.

The panelists in the discussion on the topic of land and agriculture are: Henry Gamage, Consultant, National Resource Management, Ananda Kamaragoda, Manager, Totalagala Estate, Haputale and Wasantha Halpe, Director, Chilaw Plantation. Dr. D. Gamage, Senior Research Fellow, HKARTI, will act as the moderator for the above session.

Dr. Wijaya Jayathilaka, Director, Sri Lanka Foundation Institute will deliver the welcome address and J. Jayasingha, Director, Land Use Policy will introduce the National Land Use Policy.

This national program is organised jointly by Neo Synthesis Research Centre, Future in Our Hands Development Fund, National Forum for People's Organisations, Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Helvetas, Sri Lanka, Green Movement of Sri Lanka.
