by Nadira Gunatilleke The Department of Social Services has made arrangements to provide vocational training under 32 different fields for the disabled youth between the age of 18 and 35, Assistant Director, Social Services, Hasali Rajapaksa said. He said that the trainees will be paid Rs.50 per day during the training. Accommodation facilities will also be provided. At the end of the training they will be awarded a valid certificate and a tool kit worth Rs.10,000 for the trained disabled persons who wish to start self employment. The Department has also made arrangements to provide employment to some of them. The vocational training will be provided in the fields such as agriculture, carpentry, electronics, coconut fibre related industries, sewing, batik work, braze work, motor mechanism and lathe work. Persons who have had similar training conducted by the Department of Social Services or a affiliated institution are not eligible to apply for these courses. Applications should be sent to the Directress, Social Services, the Department of Social Services, No.76/1/1, Duminda Building, Colombo 4 before July 30.
