The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said yesterday that it would provide Sri Lanka with a 230 million rupee ($2.4 million) loan to help supply electricity to households in the Jaffna peninsula. The ADB said in a statement that it would use surplus funds from another project to rebuild low-voltage transmission and distribution systems. The programme will complement a recently awarded private contract to provide 20 megawatts of emergency power for Jaffna. The ADB has also pledged money from other loan savings to help rebuild the A9 highway that runs from Kandy to Jaffna. (Reuters) |
