Stylist left hander Naveed Navaz hit a superb knock of 148 as Sri Lanka 'A' piled up 297 for 7 in their first innings on the opening day of their BCCSL invitation quadrangular cricket tournament match against the Sri Lanka Development Squad team played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

Navaz and test cap Tillekeratne Dilshan who hit exactly 50 figured in a century partnership as the Sri Lanka 'A' batsmen went on a scoring spree on a good batting wicket. Indika Gallage and Amila Perera captured two wickets each for the Sri Lanka Development Squad.

First innings points

The Combined Club XI put up a fine performance to collect first innings points over the Sri Lanka Schools team on the opening day of their BCCSL invitation quadrangular cricket tournament match which began at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

The schoolboys were bundled out for just 79 runs with Hasantha Fernando claiming 5 for 16. The Combined Club XI then reached 179 for 3 with Hasantha Fernando just two runs short of completing a century.

Sri Lanka Schools XI: 79 (Jeevan Mendis 16, Ganganath Ratnayake 13, Hasantha Fernando 5 for 16, Chamila Gamage 3 for 29, R. Dissanayake 2 for 7). Combined Club XI: 179 for 3 (Hasantha Fernando 98 n.o, R. Silva 40, Indika de Saram 23 n.o) (C.D).
