Sarath gets another

At the Annual General Meeting of the Billiards & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka held recently the following were elected to a second term of office uncontested.

Sarath to be head of B & SA SL for a second term term uncontested. Sarath J De Alwis a product of Ananda College Colombo and an all round sportsman excelled in Athletics & College Captain 1967. Played Rugby, Hockey & Cricket. National player in Billiards and Snooker and Colombo District Champion in 1990. An International REferee with experience at three World Championships. Held numerous posts in the Association and was the Organizing Secretary of the Asian Snooker Championship held in 1988 in Sri Lanka and the World Championship in 1990 at the Galadari Meridien with 34 countries participating.

A competent team of office-bearers join him in their endeavour to uplift the game and the image of the Association. Vice President Dr. Pani Somaratne a National Player, Mervyn Jayasinghe veteran Sports Administrator, Zuraish Hashim another top Snooker and Billiards player and Ananda Liyanage International Referee.

Hony. Secretary is Anil Peiris an enterpreneur, Hony. Treasurer an Auditor K. Chandrakumar Tournament Secretary Joseph MIchael a retired serviceman and Ameer Mukthar as Chief Referee.

The newcommittees immediate plan is to secure an International Coach from UK to train the team in preparation for Busan Games in South Korea and inaugurating the school programme with the opening of the Billiards Table at Royal College, Colombo which task has been undertaken by the able Vice President Mervyn Jayasinghe.

The National Billiards & Pool Championships are scheduled to be held in the month of May in preparation for Busan Games.

This year there is much enthusiasm among the Billiards sports fraternity towards promoting the sport to great heights with their own efforts.
