Seminar and workshop on umpiring by Kandy Sports Correspondent A four day seminar and a workshop on cricket umpiring will be conducted by the Umpiring Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka in association with the Central Province Cricket Association for umpires in the Central Region from April 25th to 28th at the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium commencing at 10 a.m. on each day. This workshop will be headed by former International Cricket umpire and present Director Umpiring of BCCSL K. T. Francis and the panel will include another International umpire Peter Manuel and the doyen of umpires in Sri Lanka Camillus Perera, one time Secretary General of the ACUSL will also address the Cadet Umpires. Camillus Perera has over 40 years experience both as an umpire and administrator and also in conducting seminars and workshops and his presence will be of much benefit to the participants. The Secretary of the Central Province Cricket Association Janaka Pathirana told the 'Daily News' that twenty five cricket umpires have been selected for this workshop after a competitive examination and they will be put through their paces both in theoretical and practical aspects of cricket umpiring. They will be then called upon to officiate in matches which are arranged by the Regional Cricket Board in the districts of Kandy, Kegalle, Matale and Nuwara Eliya if these necessity arose. Any school wishing to make use of their services could also do so. The Seminar and workshop will be formally declared open on April 25th Thursday at 9 a.m. by the Kandy District Parliamentarian and the President of the Kandy Cricket Association Tilina Tennakoon and also gracing the occasion as Guests of Honour will be Honorary Secretary of Central Province CA Janaka Pathirana and Hony. Treasurer Roland Perera who is also a Regional Selector. |
