Schoolboys Prasad and Wijeratne win cricket scholarships to UK The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation (SLCF) has picked Dammika Prasad of De Mazenod College, Kandana and Sahan Wijeratne of St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa to participate in Middlesex league cricket in England. Prasad has been offered a cricket scholarship by Stanmore CC and Wijeratne by Bossborough CC. Both these cricketers will be leaving for UK shortly and will be totally sponsored by the clubs who will be looking after their travel, board and lodging and welfare in England. "This is a laudable gesture from the Cricket Board committee in UK who are opening up new horizons for young schoolboy cricketers to improve their cricket education by participating in the Middlesex league," said SLCF executive secretary Nihal Kodituwakku. "A request was made by the BCCSL UK committee's vice chairman Asitha Jayaweera to the Cricket Foundation to recommend two cricketers who have not played first-class cricket to participate in the Middlesex league cricket tournament. In consultation with under 19 cricket coach Owen Mottau the Foundation forwarded the names of Prasad and Wijeratne," he said. |
