ACU & S call for captains' reports

By Ranjan Anandappa

In an effort to uplift the standard of cricket umpiring the Executive Committee of the Association Of Cricket Umpires and Scorers after a planning meeting held recently decided to call for captains' reports from organisations catering to the Association at the conclusion of every match.

The association has formed various sub-committees for the year 2002-2003. One of these sub committees were formed on the concept of the present general secretary D. Ananda Dissanayake which is called the Customer Care Unit. Presently only the cricket tournaments conducted by the Cricket Board call for captains' reports at the conclusion of every game. This is considered to be an important factor for every umpire and for the betterment of umpires and the game.

The Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers is a different body from the Cricket Board although they have formed the nucleus of cricket umpires. The ACU&S did not require a captain's report after tournament matches in the past.

Presently the assignment of umpires for the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Nationalised Services CA, State Services CA, Mercantile CA, and Police Department matches are being done by the ACU&S and captains reports were not required.

With the new concept in future matches the above Associations will have to submit the captains' reports after each game. These reports will be treated strictly confidential and the ACU&S will follow up each complaint carefully. The main purpose of forming the customer care unit is to expect a feedback from captains, rectify mistakes to improve the standard and stature of umpires.

The Customer are Unit is C. D. C. Camillus Perera (Coordinator), J. W. K. Boteju (Secretary), D. A. S. Dissanayake, Pushpa Gunatileka, T. Junkeer.

The Training and Technical Committee is headed by W. A. Udaya Wickremasinghe (chairman), Saman Amarasinghe, (Secretary), Ignatius Anandappa, D. M. H. Dissanayake, Asoka de Silva, A. C. S. Perera (coordinator).
