Road widening project at Kalmunai

The work on the road widening project from Akkaraipattu to Kalmunai initiated by the Ministry of Highways is going on smoothly and the public and the business community of Akkaraipattu town have extended their co-operation on demolishing their buildings and shops to widening the road to 56 feet.

Initially a stretch of the road from the 363rd km post to the 380 km post will be constructed on the first phase of the project.

Minister of Highways and Eastern Transport A. L. Athaullah who inaugurated the project on March 2 at Akkaraipattu Junction. He held discussions with the business community the people from the market and other important people of the area. He called upon them to extend their co-operation by demolishing their buildings to go ahead with the project. Now the buildings, shops and the boutiques within the limits of 56ft. are being demolished.
