Bangladesh invites Lankan investors Bangladesh invites Sri Lankan entrepreneurs for investments, making full use of new incentives that have been offered by the Dhaka regime. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia during her talks with visiting Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando has said that she expects that the volume of Sri Lankan investments in Bangladesh would increase after the new initiatives of her government. Sri Lanka has also paid attention on the current privatisation process in Bangladesh and Minister Fernando has informed Bangladeshi Industries Minister H. K. Anwar that Sri Lanka will explore possibilities to participate in the process. The country is currently opting for massive denationalization of state-owned enterprises. Bangladesh has introduced a pro-active industrial policy and the incentive package for foreign investments. Minister Anwar who had extensive talks with Minister Fernando on Wednesday has welcomed the Sri Lankan interest in investing in Bangladesh and also participating in the privatisation program. State industries in jute, textile, paper and several other sectors in Bangladesh are to be privatised soon. Foreign Minister Fernando has also told Minister Anwar that Sri Lanka is interested in increasing the volume of imports of jute and jute products from Bangladesh. Minister Fernando on behalf of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, has also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to visit Sri Lanka at a convenient time. |
