Postal rates up The government has decided to raise postal rates from April 25. Ordinary postal rates will go up by around 25 per cent and commercial rates by around 60 per cent, Postal Department sources said. The postage for an ordinary letter will be Rs.4.50 and for a registered letter, Rs.16.50. Parcel Post rates will also increase substantially. Air mail and foreign parcel rates will also increase, but telegraphic rates will remain the same, the sources said. This decision has been taken in view of huge losses suffered by the Postal Department during the past few years and with the aim of providing a more efficient and reliable service to the consumers. |
