by Sarath Malalasekera The CID yesterday arrested two officers attached to the Presidential Security Division, one in connection with the attack on the last UNP General election rally held at Maradana where Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe presided over and another on the attack on the journalists at the Kollupitiya junction. These two PSD officials were last evening produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Priyantha Fernando who remanded them. The CID is conducting investigations into these matters on a directive by Interior Minister John Amaratunga. The CID team also recovered several items which were on the stage at Maradana UNP rally from a residence of one of the suspects taken into custody at the Slave Island Police Quarters. The CID also took into custody a cellular phone from the Veyangoda Police area, which is alleged to have been used by a journalist on the day of the incident at Kollupitiya. Investigators also said that they are conducting further investigations to ascertain whether any senior officer of the PSD was involved in this attack. |
