News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | LTTE expands its political wing in North-East Lankapuvath: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam plans to expand its political activities in the North and East. The LTTE has decided to set up offices of their political wing in every district in the North-East. The districts are Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa, a spokesman for the LTTE's political wing leader Thamil Chelvam told Lankapuvath. The first LTTE political wing office was opened at Kurumankadu in Vavuniya yesterday. The other offices will be opened later. A special team led by LTTE political wing leader, Thamil Chelvam has been nominated to undertake political activities at these offices. They will function under the name of "Eelam political, cultural and social development group". Fifty members of this group have been permitted by the government to enter government-controlled areas via security forces observation zones and forward defence lines, from yesterday. The Government says permission has been granted under the memorandum of understanding.
