Four die in van collision Two persons died on the spot and two others after admission to Colombo National hospital and three were injured when a van collided with a lorry at Naranwala on Biyagama, Weliweriya road last Monday (25) evening. P.L. Siripala (37) of Habaraduwa K.M.K. Fernando (28) of Panadura, L. Indralal Perera (32) of Heiyantuduwa and S.K. Vithana (26) of Sewanagala were identified as the dead persons. The van was badly damaged. Meegahawtta police are investigating. Wanted: B-ve blood D. L. A. Help save her life Three-year-old baby Praveena Ratnayaka is suffering from leukamia and specialist doctors have recommended that she must be taken to Australia for treatment. Since the parents of the baby are finding it difficult to meet the total cost of treatment which is about 1.6 million, they are appealing for funds. Silumina anniversary Our sister newspaper Silumina celebrates its 72nd anniversary today. The first issue of Silumina was published on March 30, 1930 under the editorship of Piyasena Nissanka. The Daily News extends its best wishes to Silumina on its 72nd anniversary. Shot dead T.W.A. Karunaratne alias Karuna Malli (37), of Thorakolayaya, Embilipitiya, a father of four children was shot dead at close range by an unidentified gunmen on Tuesday, March 27. At the time of the shooting, the Karunaratna had been putting up shutters of his shop after the day's business, investigations revealed. The victim who was rushed to the hospital was found dead on admission. Embilipitiya police are investigating under the direction of HQI, Nimalasiri Perera. Over Rs. 6m from revenue licences Revenue licences have been renewed in respect of 7971 vehicles in Tricomalee district during the year 2001. The revenue collected totalled Rs. 6,072,392.58.
