Youth hijack van

by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

Kadawatha Police are now investigating an incident where a group of youth had hijacked van at gunpoint on the Kandy road on Wednesday night.

The hijackers had hired the vehicle from Colombo pretending that they were travelling to Sri Pada, Hatton. But on the way, they had attacked the driver and left him on the road, Kadawatha OIC A.S. Nalaka told the Daily News yesterday.

Another set of youth had got into the vehicle on the way.

The driver had complained to Police that the suspects had wielded a shrap knife and pistol at him and thrashed him on the road around 10.00 pm near Webada, Kadawatha.

Police found the driver on the road with his hands tied with his shirt torn.

The driver had been hiring his vehicle at Gunasinghapura, Fort. Police said the driver's condition was stable.

Kadawatha Police are conducting further investigations.
