Mobile services of immense benefit - DS

by Christie Fernando, Chilaw special correspondent

Puttalam District Secretary Jayalath R. W. Dissanayake said the Mobile services held in nine centres in the Puttalam district were of immense benefit to the masses.

He was speaking on the Mobile service of the 100-days development programme held at Madampe recently.

"The people in the Puttalam district were immeasurably assisted in obtaining redress to their grievances. Their problems were solved expeditiously. In the past, many people had to trek to divisional secretariats, police, banks and various other offices, wasting their precious time to resolve their dilemmas," Mr. Dissanayake said.

"In this respect, over sixty per cent of their grievances - out of over 10,000 problems presented - were solved instantaneously with the concurrence of the politicians and other officers present at the centres.

For instance, unregistered marriages and births were duly registered then and there without any inordinate delay, problems in regard to property and social services were resolved, but there were many who were hoping to obtain loans. Each candidate who visited the mobile centres was assigned a 'Jangama Seva'. Number for easy reference to follow it up later on, especially as the decision taken in regard to each case was specifically mentioned in the form issued. However, not every problem presented was solved, he said.

So far Mobile services were conducted in Karuwalagaswewa, Puttalam, Wanathavilluwa, Mundel, Kalpitiya, Nawagaththegama, Mahawewa, Kanjukkuliya and Madampe. It is expected to complete the Mobile services in the sixteen divisional secretariats in the district before March 28 within the 100-day programme, Mr. Dissanayake added.
