Polls will be held to elect 96 representatives to eight local bodies in the Digamadulla district today. They are: Ampara, Uhana, Damana, Mahaoya, Dehiattakandiya, Namaloya, Padiyatalawa and Lahugala. Assistant Elections Commissioner Bandula Harischandra told the Daily News that 298,766 persons are eligible to vote.

There will be 12 counting centres and the first result is expected around 8 p.m. today. Police have made all security arrangements and deployed an additional 1000 personnel for the polling booths and the counting centres.
