Five soldiers remanded

Five soldiers who had been taken into custody in connection with the forcible taking away of ballot boxes at the Udatalawinna poll centre fraud were remanded till April 2 after being produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate Sarath Premakumara last Friday evening. The soldiers are to be produced in an identification parade.

K.M.P. Thilakaratne, Priyantha Nilakumara Gunasekara,Nalin Wasantha Rathgama, Kingsley Witarana and Kapilasingha Ratnayaka were the suspect soldiers who were taken to the Teldeniya Magistrate in a covered vehicle . Subsequently they were produced before the Court by the Criminal Investigations Department who submitted a "B" report to the Court.

These suspects were taken into custody by CID officers Linton Rathnayaka and Shani Abesekara on a tip off.
