PLOTE, EPDP hand over weapons

The People's Liberation Organisation of Thamil Eelam (PLOTE), a paramilitary group operating with the Army and the EPDP handed over their weapons yesterday in Battifcaloa, under the terms of the Ceasefire Agreement between the Government and the LTTE.

Mr. K. Pakkiyarasa, the PLOTE chief in the eastern district told 'Daily News' that the weapons handed over were from the group's camp at the Black Bridge, Chenkalady on Friday and the balance weapons were handed over on Sunday in Batticaloa. He said he handed over more than 85 weapons, including T-56 and T-81 assault rifles, light machine guns, ammunition and grenades.

Meanwhile, the EPDP in Batticaloa claimed that it has handed over 10 T-56 assault rifles, 7 pistols, rounds and grenades in its possession in the Batticaloa town. The group's spokesman in Batticaloa Mr. Paraneetharan said that they handed over its weapons yesterday.
