Detectives to visit Sri Lanka for DNA samples from parents

by Reggie Fernando our London Correspondent

Murder squad detectives from Scotland Yard will travel to Colombo within the next few days to obtain DNA samples from the parents of the dead Sri Lankan boy whose naked body was found battered, and burnt in a park in Kingsbury, North West London recently.

The investigation took a dramatic turn after detectives probing the gruesome murder released a picture of the victim made by a forensic artist, to the national newspapers and appealed for any person who recognised the boy to come forward.

Within hours of the appeal a Sri Lankan restaurateur from Wembley, told police that the victim was his 18-year-old Sri Lankan born nephew, who had been living in Wembley.

Detective Superintendent Nigel Mawer heading the investigation told the Daily News that the murder seems to be connected to another incident in Wembley where the body of a human being was seen bundled into a Nissan Micra car outside the Palm Beach restaurant along Ealing Road, Wembley - a rendezvous for Sri Lankans in the vicinity.

On Wednesday night in BBCs 'Crimewatch' program police appealed for anyone who had witnessed the car incident to come forward and help with the inquiries.

In the meantime three men in their late teens who were arrested on suspicion were released on bail yesterday and will appear in court on 20 March.
