ADB delegation visits tea estate in Nuwara Eliya

A eleven member Asian Development Bank delegation led by its President Mr. Tadoa Chino visited Pedro Estate, Nuwara Eliya as part of its visit to the plantation sector. The delegation was received by the Group Manager, Roshan Rajadurai, the workers and staff of this estate and given a rousing welcome.

This is the second visit made by the ADB team to this estate.

ADB's President, Tadoa Chino who showed much interest with his team in the processing of quality teas and the functioning of the tea industry visited the factory, the nursery, the housing scheme where the workers demonstrated the manual plucking pruning and also showed them the machinery for both plucking and pruning, apart of the orthodox methods.

The Asian Development Bank which gives appreciable funds for the development of the plantation sector will continue to extend its funding process and other aspects in the future too, added the ADB President at a reception accorded to the delegation at the Grand Hotel hosted by the Ceylon Planters Association's Chairman, Mahendra Amarasuriya.

The Chairman of the Planters Association of Ceylon, Mahendra Amarasuriya outlined the progress and development of the tea industry since the privatisation and thanked the Asian Development Bank, the main funding agency for its continued support.

ADB President, Tadoa Chino said that he and his team were highly impressed and assured the ADB's co-operation and goodwill for its future progress in Sri Lanka.

The ADB President hoisted the national flag and opened a plaque in the factory premises in commemoration of its visit.
