The Ministry of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion is to appoint 12 Task Forces to identify strategies to promote accelerated development in the more profitable sectors in the industrial fields. Seven such Task Forces have already been appointed to cater to the rubber, leather products, gem and jewellery, tea, coir, food and spices and ceramic sectors, a press release by the Government Information Department said. These are part of the activities launched by the ministry under the Government's 100 day program to devise long and medium term plans for promoting sustained development in the country's industrial sector. The release said the ministry has already compiled a report on strategies to overcome deficiencies and weaknesses of the small and medium scale industrial sector for implementation under ADB assistance. The release added that in addition to these Task Forces comprising leading industrialists, industrial and trade chamber representatives, intellectuals and senior officials the Information Technology Committee appointed by the ministry has been asked to submit a report on strategies to develop the information technology sector before April. Steps are also being taken to relax stringent regulations impeding industrial growth and streamline the activities of the Industrial Advisory Board under this program. |
