Ajantha Soysa MP given bail

The Court of Appeal yesterday granted bail for Ajantha Soysa, PA MP and owner of the Monara Security Services and P. Sendanayake, manager of the Monara Security Services who had been remanded in connection with the Maturata intimidation case by the Kandy Magistrate C.V. Rajapaksa on February 25.

The Bench comprising Justice Raja Fernando and Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunga directed the two suspects to furnish cash bail in Rs. 25,000 each with two sureties acceptable to Court. They were also directed to appear before the CID on every second Saturday.

President's Counsel Daya Perera who appeared with Anuja Premaratne and M. Kiri Banda for the two suspects moving for bail said that the two suspects were arrested by the CID in connection with an incident at Hanguranketha area. The Monara Security Services had obtained permission to possessed weapons, the Senior Counsel submitted to court. Deputy Solicitor General Palitha Fernando who appeared for the Attorney General said that he had no objections only to grant bail for two suspects, Ajantha Soysa and Sendanayake.

Earlier the Kandy Magistrate remanded nine other suspects who were taken into custody in connection with unlawful assembly, mischief and intimidation. The tenth suspect PSD Director Nihal Karunaratne was earlier released on Rs. 100,000 personal bail with two sureties.

President's Counsel Wijaya Wickremaratne appeared for some of the suspects before the Kandy Magistrate.
