by Florence Wickramage The 19th Medical Mercy Mission of the German Help Foundation was successfully carried out for the first time in Jaffna at the Government Teaching Hospital supported by its Director and Medical Staff. Minister Dr. Jayalath Jayewardena speaking on the progress of programmes launched for the 100 days, and the success of the Medical Mission, was appreciative of the humanitarian services of the German Help Foundation which was responsible for the sponsoring, organizing and co-ordination of the Medical clinics. The Team headed by Dr. Charles Viva, Consultant Plastic, Aesthetic & Hand Surgeon from Great Britain was supported by medical personnel from Zimbabwe, Germany, Sri Lanka and the U.K. Dr. Charles Viva has had the distinction of leading the first team to Sri Lanka from Interplast Britain. The Mercy Mission carried out operations for cleft palates, cleft lips, scar contractions, burns, post traumatic injuries and skin cancers at the Government Teaching Hospital in Jaffna from February 12 to February 23. |
