Abducted child released

The four-year-old child Sendil Kumar Binda who was abducted from the parents living in Kotahena, Colombo, was handed over to the parents by the LTTE through the Red Cross in the uncleared area of Sampur within the Muthur Police Division,as revealed by Muthur Police information sources.

According to Police sources the child has been taken away by a man called Pindini Letchimi Madi Alagan, supposed to be a friend of the parents,who has subsequently telephoned the parents from LB 3 area of Kiliweddi in the Seruwila Police Division as an LTTE agent and demanded five hundred thousand rupees for the release of the child.

According to Muthur Police OIC IP Jagath de Alwis, the LTTE members on hearing about the incident which involved their name rounded up the uncleared area of Sampur, but the racketeer fled away leaving behind the child. The LTTE members having taken the child into their care, handed over the child to the parents last Saturday through the Red Cross when the parents came to Sampur area accompanied by a few police officers from the Kotahena Police.
