by Ariyaratne Ganegoda The head of the Ceasefire Monitoring Mission retired Norwegian Army General Trond Furuhovde who was accompanied by two other mission members Helge Syversen and Svein Marius Myklebust are expected to meet LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran this week. As a preamble to this, they will meet LTTE Political Wing Leader Thamilchelvam in Mallawi area today, Norwegian Embassy sources said. Gen. Furuhovde and his representatives met LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham and Norwegian Special Envoy Erik Solheim in London before they left for Colombo last week. One of the main aims of the trio in meeting the LTTE leader is to discuss with him the setting up of ceasefire monitoring centres, the sources said. The members of the Mission will also review the way that the LTTE had honoured the agreement so far. The trio will also have intermittent discussions with the LTTE during their stay in the country, the sources said. Gen. Furuhovde, Messrs Syversen and Myklebust will meet President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe this weekend. |
